Hollow Oak: A Stop-Motion Short
A hand-built forest, 14 miniature sets and a 9-minute film about a fox who forgets how to be wild.
Three years ago we built a single oak tree out of wire and silicone. It is now the centre of a nine-minute stop-motion film, with fourteen sets, sixty puppets and a score recorded by a six-piece ensemble in a barn.
Everything is practical. No CG, no green screen. The forest is moss, resin and about 4,000 individually painted leaves, and the fox has eleven interchangeable faces so it can actually act.
This campaign pays for the final animation block, the sound mix and a 35mm print for festivals. Backers get the finished film, the making-of book and a piece of the set.
